This is well documented to contribute towards premature DPF, EGR and other exhaust / fuel system components. As a result Skoda have put in place a 'trust building measure' and will replace faulty EGR's on cars that have been recalled Not sure if VW do the same but it would be worth pursuing.

I took it to the local garage to check, same trouble code, they said EGR valve "live data suggest that the valve is not opening 100% (about 55% -ish). Has to be accessed from below. Exhaust & DPF haveto come off. Plus much of the other plumbing and components in that area, even just to get near the EGR valve. RnquAUs.
